Toronto properties

Toronto parking, enforced properly.

Toronto has some of the strictest private property towing rules in Ontario. A car can’t be towed from your lot just because you want it gone: the property needs the right signs, a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer has to ticket the vehicle, and a Toronto Police tow card has to be issued first. Skip a step and the tow can be challenged, with the complaint landing on the property.

We work with condo boards, landlords and business owners from the waterfront to Scarborough to set up enforcement properly, then remove unauthorized vehicles quickly once the rules are met.

In most cases, the towing and storage fees are paid by the vehicle owner, not by your property.

Toronto rules

Private property towing under Toronto's by-law

In Toronto, private property towing is governed by the Toronto Municipal Code, mainly Chapters 150 and 915, and by Ontario’s Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act. Here’s the process, step by step.

1

Post compliant signs

Signs must be visible at each entrance and state who may park and that violators are ticketed and towed.

2

Arrange enforcement

The property sets up parking enforcement with Municipal Law Enforcement Officers, on file with Toronto Police.

3

Ticket and tow card

An MLEO tickets the vehicle and a Toronto Police tow card is issued before any tow.

4

Certified tow

A certified tow operator removes the car, with photos of its condition, location and time.

5

Police are notified

The vehicle goes to secure storage and Toronto Police are told where, so the owner can find it.

6

Owner collects it

The owner pays the towing and storage fees and can get personal items out at no charge.

City-wide rules

These rules apply across the whole City of Toronto, including North York, Etobicoke, East York, Scarborough and York. Properties in Mississauga, Vaughan and other GTA cities follow their own by-laws.

FAQ

Toronto questions.

For property owners & managers

Not on your call alone. In Toronto, a Municipal Law Enforcement Officer must ticket the car and a Toronto Police tow card must be issued, and your property needs proper signs. Call us and we’ll explain the fastest legal route.

Usually the owner of the towed vehicle pays the towing and storage fees, not the property. Extra services like signage advice or scheduled patrols may have a cost, and we’ll tell you up front.

It’s the part of Toronto’s Municipal Code that covers parking on private and municipal property, including how unauthorized parking is enforced. Your signs should reference it.

Toronto properties arrange enforcement through Municipal Law Enforcement Officers who work on the property’s behalf. We’ll explain how it works and coordinate the towing side once enforcement is in place.

Yes, once the vehicle has been ticketed and a tow card issued under Toronto’s process. Low-clearance garages are no problem for our compact truck.

Yes. We provide tow records, sign reviews and a clear process your board can share with residents.

For vehicle owners

Check the lot’s signs for the tow company’s name, or call Toronto Police non-emergency at 416-808-2222. If the signs list GTA Towing, call us at +1 (437) 460-6320.

Yes. Personal items can be collected from your vehicle free of charge. Call ahead so we can arrange a time.

No. Cars on public streets are handled by Toronto Police Parking Enforcement, so call 416-808-2222. A private tow company can’t remove vehicles from city roads on its own.
