About the service

We handle the tow, you handle the rest.

A collision is stressful enough. We clear your vehicle from the scene and deliver it to your mechanic, dealer or body shop, with a stop at the Collision Reporting Centre when your report needs one. You get photos of the damage and an itemized invoice for your insurance claim.

You choose who tows your car and where it goes. That’s the law in Ontario, and it’s how we work.

Right after a collision

What to do after an accident

Keep calm and work through these steps. They protect you, your insurance claim and everyone on the road.

1

Check for injuries

If anyone is hurt, or you suspect impaired driving or a stolen vehicle, call 911 right away.

2

Get out of traffic

If the cars can move and it’s safe, move them off the road. Turn on your hazards.

3

Exchange information

Names, phone numbers, licence, plate, insurance company and policy number of every driver.

4

Take photos

Both vehicles, the damage, the scene, road signs, and the other driver’s documents.

5

Call your tow

Call a company you trust. You don’t have to use a tow truck that just shows up at the scene.

6

Report the collision

Report to police if anyone is hurt or the damage is over $5,000. Where you report depends on your city: a CRC in Toronto, Peel’s reporting centres, or online in York Region.

Good to know

Every police service in the GTA handles collision reports a little differently. Toronto sends towed cars straight to a Collision Reporting Centre, Peel has its own centres, and York Region takes most reports online. We know the right stop for each city.

Collision reporting

Collision reporting across the GTA.

In Ontario, you must report a collision to police when someone is injured or when the combined damage is over $5,000. In most of the GTA, that report isn’t taken at the scene. You make it afterwards, and the process depends on which police service covers the road you were on.

Collision on a 400-series highway like the 401, 427 or 404? That’s handled by the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). On city roads, it’s the local police service. Pick your city below for the exact steps.

Toronto

Towed vehicles go straight to a Collision Reporting Centre: Toronto North (Toryork Drive) or Toronto East (Howden Road). See accident towing in Toronto.

Peel Region

Peel Regional Police take collision reports for Mississauga and Brampton at their reporting centres. See accident towing in Mississauga.

York Region

Most York Regional Police collision reports are filed online. See Vaughan or Richmond Hill.

Sources: Toronto Police Service, Peel Regional Police and York Regional Police. Rules and hours can change, so check with the police service before you go.

Insurance

We work with your insurance.

After an accident, the tow is usually the first part of your insurance claim. We make that part easy by giving your insurer exactly what they need, and we never push you toward a body shop you didn’t choose.

1

We document the damage
Photos of your vehicle and the scene before and after loading, shared with you on WhatsApp.

2

You get an itemized invoice
Every charge listed clearly, within our published maximum rates. No surprise fees.

3

We talk to your adjuster
Give us your claim number and we’ll share the tow details, invoice and photos with your insurer.

4

Direct billing when your claim allows
In many cases we can send the invoice straight to your insurance company, so you don’t pay out of pocket.

5

We move your car to the approved shop
Once your insurer approves a repair shop, we can take your car there from our yard.

We work with all major insurers

Including drivers insured with:

GTA Towing is an independent towing company. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by these insurers. Company names are trademarks of their owners. Coverage for towing and storage depends on your policy, so check with your insurer or broker.

Keep these for your insurance claim

  • Your claim number and adjuster’s name
  • Other driver’s name, plate and insurance
  • Photos of the scene and damage
  • Collision report number from the CRC or police
  • Our itemized towing invoice
  • Where your vehicle is stored and the daily storage rate
Your rights

Know your rights before you sign.

Since January 1, 2024, Ontario’s Towing and Storage Safety and Enforcement Act (TSSEA) protects drivers at accident scenes. It was created to stop “chasers”, tow trucks that race to collisions and pressure drivers into overpriced tows.

We follow these rules on every job, and we think you should know them before you hand your keys to anyone.
